Future Physiology

Future Physiology is our annual conference for professional development, organised for early career researchers by early career researchers.

Organise an exciting scientific meeting to raise your profile, expand your network and build on your professional development portfolio of skills.

Who can apply?

  • Undergraduate and Masters, Postgraduate, and Full (early career) members only.  All organisers must be members of The Society at the time of applying.
  • Career stages: Undergraduates and Master’s students, PhD students, and recently qualified postdoctoral researchers.

What is available?

Every year we give you the opportunity to organise an online event for the physiological community worldwide. This is a great opportunity to network with and learn from each other and have some fun.

How do I apply?

All proposals must be inclusive of The Society’s seven Themes.

Applications should include:

  • An outline of the topic and reasons for choosing it
  • Preliminary programme, speaker list and how the programme encompasses all seven Themes.Please note, you can invite a maximum of eight invited speakers and must include time for submitted abstracts to be presented. You must also include/allow space for dedicated professional development sessions within the programme
  • CV from each committee member
  • Supporting letter from each committee member’s supervisor

  • This is an online meeting opportunity only.
  • This is not a grant and the budget, expenditure and income will be managed by The Society
  • The funding is intended for new events and is not to be used to support one in an existing series.
  • You may only apply and receive one award in a five year period.
  • Funding is available to individuals only and is not intended to be used by other cognate societies or commercial organisations, although they may provide additional funding or sponsor such events.
  • These are Society owned and marketed events. Other sponsors will be termed as “in association with” or “supported by” and will not have influence over either the terms or conditions of the funding or the scientific programme.
  • A registration fee may be charged. These fees go directly to The Society and are not considered additional funding for the event.

The Society will:

  • Select, populate and manage the online event platform
  • Select and work with the ePoster solution provider
  • Market and promote the event to the membership
  • Prepare and manage the budget
  • Provide online registration services
  • Liaise with invited speakers
  • Manage online abstract submission
  • Collate abstracts for scientific review
  • Conduct ethical review of abstracts
  • Provide on the day logistical and event management
  • Provide all conference collateral (social media graphics, event platform graphics, PDFs for online distribution)

The organisers will:

  • Draft the programme with the Events Team for approval by Early Career Theme Leads and Conferences Committee
  • Informally invite the speakers
  • Review all abstracts, together with the Early Career Theme Leads and/or Conferences Committee
  • Select oral communications, being mindful of geographical and scientific balance, in association with the Early Career Theme Leads
  • Produce the final order of abstracts, in association with the Early Career Theme Leads
  • Work with The Society’s Professional Development Officer to include appropriate sessions during the conference
  • Assist with marketing and promotion
  • Chair sessions
  • Provide a final written report of event outcomes for Physiology News and the website
